Alliance for Quantum Innovation Program

The program supports collaborative research projects and a guest researcher program between the Center for IQST and external academic and industry partners.  


The Alliance for Quantum Innovation Program, initiated by Prof. Fedor Jelezko and Prof. Jörg Wrachtrup, began in the fall of 2016.  In order to apply to take part in the program as a PI, visiting scientist, or PhD please contact the Fellows or IQST Management office for more information.    

In addition to the many international collaborations IQST PIs have, the center for IQST has three official international University collaboration partners:  namely, Hebrew University, Tokyo University, and the University of British Columbia.  The collaborations were founded by the Alliance for Quantum Innovation Program, funded by the Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, Ulm University, the University of Stuttgart, the Max-Planck Institute for solid-state physics, and Hebrew University.  

The program aims to strengthen collaboration not only with international partner Universities but also industry partners via common research projects. The program has three official industry partners: Robert Bosch, Carl Zeiss, and Bruker, which are leaders in their respective fields and located in Baden-Württemberg.

The centerpiece of the collaboration is a graduate school.  PhDs are funded through the Alliance program to carry out their studies within the IQST center with the possibility for extended stays at the collaborative research institute or industry partner.   Hebrew University will fund and host an additional 5 PhD students, who have the possibility to visit the center for IQST during their PhD studies.

The Quantum Information Science Center founded in 2013 at the Hebrew University is the first quantum science center in Israel.  The center offers world-renowned expertise in Quantum science, Mathematics, and Information science.  The Faculty of Mathematics of Hebrew University is one of the top 10 in the world.  The complementary research topics between the Quantum Information Science Center and IQST lends itself to close collaborations.

The University of British Columbia and the University of Tokyo are international leaders in the solid-state and material science.  Their expertise has led to strong collaborative ties with the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research.  All three institutions have, in particular, competencies in quantum materials with applications in thermoelectrics, energy storage and energy conversion.  The Alliance program makes it possible to build up collaborations between other complimentary departments such as ultracold chemistry.
